Welcome back to part 2 of the Chakra Healing for Pelvic Pain series! If you missed part one, How the Root Chakra Affects Pelvic Pain, you can catch up there first.

We work with the chakras to support pelvic pain on many levels — because your pain is more than just physical.

Today, we’re exploring the Sacral Chakra and pelvic pain, the second chakra most closely connected to the pelvis. This one lives right in your pelvic bowl — which makes it especially important for those of us navigating pelvic floor dysfunction or chronic pelvic pain.

What is the Sacral Chakra?

The Sacral Chakra is your pelvis, and often connected to the womb space — and it’s there whether or not you physically have a womb.

When most people think of the Sacral Chakra, they immediately think of hip openers (which is why this chakra is often a favourite to work with in yoga!).

But there’s so much more to it.

Your Sacral Chakra governs:

  • Sensuality

  • Sexuality

  • Emotions

  • Pleasure

  • Creativity

  • Joy

  • Abundance

Physical connection: pelvis, low back, lower abdomen, kidneys, spleen, and sexual organs.

Why the Sacral Chakra Matters for Pelvic Pain

Your pelvis holds more than just muscles and organs — it holds energy, emotions, and memory.

If your Sacral Chakra is blocked or imbalanced, it can show up in many ways:

  • Pelvic or low back pain

  • Disconnection from sensuality and pleasure (not only sexual — but also the simple joy of touch, taste, or presence)

  • Feeling emotionally stuck, numb, or overwhelmed

Think of those moments in yoga class where you settle into a deep hip opener and tears unexpectedly rise up. That’s your body releasing stored emotions — and it’s completely normal.

When your Sacral Chakra is balanced, you may feel fluid, creative, joyful, and connected to pleasure in all forms. When it’s blocked, the pelvis can feel heavy, tense, and guarded.

The breath & the Sacral Chakra for Pelvic Floor Tension

In my Pelvic Floor Yoga classes, we use the breath to create space in the pelvis.

When you breathe into your sacral area, you’re not just supporting muscle release — you’re helping clear and balance this energy center too. Breath is the bridge between the physical and the energetic.

Ways to Activate & Balance Your Sacral Chakra

The element of this chakra is water, so think flow, softness, and movement.

✔️ Take a bath or go swimming ✔️ Dance freely ✔️ Practice Yoni Mudra (hands forming a triangle at the lower belly) ✔️ Pair this mudra with pelvic floor breathing ✔️ Use sensual essential oils like rose or ylang ylang ✔️ Massage your lower abdomen with care ✔️ Try hip-opening yoga poses:

  • Butterfly pose

  • Deep Yogi Squat

  • Hip circles

Affirmation: I am worthy of joy and pleasure.

Try This Mini-Practice

Sit comfortably and place your hands in Yoni Mudra over your lower belly. Close your eyes and take 5 slow breaths, sending your breath into the space beneath your hands.

Notice: do you feel tension, softness, or maybe nothing at all? Whatever arises is welcome — this is where your healing begins.
