As someone who lives with Lichen Sclerosus and overactive pelvic floor dysfunction, I know how challenging it can be to incorporate movement into your daily life. I get messages every week from folks in this community asking:
“What can I incorporate movement when I’m in pain?”
Here’s my answer: Try doing yoga naked.
Yes, naked.
Some people might think that’s a little too much (or even gross?), but hear me out:
You being naked is one of the most normal things in the world.
You live with vulvar pain—why not let your vulva breathe while you move?
Clothing can sometimes aggravate sensitive areas, especially if you're wearing tight underwear, seams, or synthetic fabrics. When you practice yoga naked, your body can move more freely—and your vulva gets the break it deserves.
If You Have Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Your Body Needs Movement
Here’s the thing: if you live with overactive pelvic floor dysfunction and you’re not moving, that tension and pain can build up.
Your body wants movement. And it doesn’t have to be hard—make it gentle, mindful, and supportive.
I hear this in class all the time:
“I didn’t even realize how stiff I was until I started moving.”
And that’s the body speaking—showing up in discomfort, tension, or that clenchy feeling you just can’t stretch away with a single pose.
Yoga for Lichen Sclerosus: Empowerment, Support & Going Naked
I’ve had students start practicing yoga naked not because they live with Lichen Sclerosus, but because it feels empowering. It helps them:
Reconnect with their bodies
Reclaim power they may have lost through pain or trauma
Befriend themselves again
And if you do live with Lichen Sclerosus, this is such a powerful way to combine your tools.
Try practicing yoga naked with a cold pack to support your vulva.
Yoga Poses + Cold Pack Combos
Child’s Pose – pillow under your bum, cold pack on the pillow
Supine Bound Angle Pose (Butterfly) – pillow under your thighs, cold pack on vulva
Easy Seated – pillow under you, cold pack on the pillow

Want to use a cold pack without practicing naked?

Now’s the Time to Try
It’s summer. It’s hot.
There’s no better time to start practicing yoga naked.
I invite you to try a short practice—even if it’s just legs up the wall—and reflect on how it made you feel.
You don’t need fancy gear or a picture-perfect flow to support your body—especially when you’re living with pelvic pain.
Just you, your breath, your body, and maybe a little less clothing than usual!
